A priority message from Starfleet Command has deployed us to the Alpha Toryui system to rendezvous with U.S.S. Mogami to assist in the evacuation of a team of archaeologists and several unique ancient artifacts from below the surface of the second world. I’m intrigued by the mysteries the planet contains, but what we rescue here may be all that will answer the many questions that we have about who was in that system, and why.
Alpha Toryui II has been a focal point for archaeological work in the Shackleton Expanse. The ruins are subterranean, and many of them have been cut off by magma as fluctuations in local gravity have heated the planet. Now the planet is a volcanic hell with open lakes of lava all over the surface, constant eruptions, and an increasingly toxic atmosphere. Intense radiation from Alpha Toryui is stripping off the atmosphere and resulting in brilliant aurorae.
Unfortunately for the crew the star is unstable, and in a premature red giant phase. Readings on it are erratic and a collapse into a supernova is expected any time in the next few days. The archaeologist under the surface of the second planet must be evacuated as soon as possible, but they insist on the careful removal of artifacts.
Admiral Hebert and General Kargan have ordered a flotilla to transport the federation personnel. The fleet includes the U.S.S. Kongzi in command, the U.S.S. Ontario, the I.K.S. jorwI' Hegh and the I.K.S. pey qovIj.
Can the crew get their personnel off of the planet before the star collapses? Will the ships themselves escape in time? What, if any mysteries does the planet have left, and will they interfere with the the evacuation? Find out next time, on Star Trek: Endurance, only on the Top Hats Off Channel!
