During lockdown, on a walk near Stoodley Pike, I discovered a carved face on a rock that looked like a viking. Alongside it were some initials.
I soon found out that this was just one of many face carvings hidden on rocks across the Calder Valley and beyond. After finding a couple more in lockdown, the quest was on to find as many as possible.
In 6 years, we have found 12 and filmed them over time on this channel. They are roughly 25 to 30 years old and carved by Cragg Vale sculptor Paul Frechette as part of a millennium art project. The fun comes knowing there is no map, no guide... its...'if you see rocks, search them'!
Today, after receiving information, I set off to hopefully find Viking Face 13.
