Happy Friday the 13th!!!
We finally have some solid Scream 5 scoop! It appears the first bits of information are starting to become public. Filming is slated to begin some time in May, which would indicate that pre-production has been going on for some time.
We still haven't gotten any cast announcements, but we do have a director, or rather directors, as "Ready or Not" co-directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have been signed on. This is pretty exciting, as Ready or Not was a very well received horror/comedy from last year, and had a style that was very similar to Scream's brand. I think these two will find themselves right at home with this movie, and hopefully will keep Wes Craven's legacy alive.
Kevin Williamson will also be returning. No confirmation on whether or not he has or will be writing the script, but he will be executive producing, so we can at least count on one OG being involved so far.
We also have a brief plot synopsis. The story will follow a woman returning to her home town to try to find out who has been committing a series of vicious crimes. This does sound a lot like it could be Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), and the town of Woodsboro. But it could also potentially be fan favorite Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere) who's fate was always left ambiguous at the end of Scream 4 by Wes Craven, in case he decided he wanted to bring her back. However, we might have to face the reality that this could be a completely new character, and setting. But who wants that? Unless it's all some clever misdirection to keep us fans on our toes.
One thing is for certain, the internet is going to be very active in the coming weeks as we discover more information about this movie, and we can finally start putting the pieces together
