Jasper Tan, bass trombone
Gabriel Hoe, piano

Commissioned by Singaporean bass trombonist Jasper Tan in late 2014, Pentasy, which is an amalgamation of the words ‘pentatonic’ and ‘fantasy’, is a reflective piece which brings the listener through variations on different kinds of pentatonic scales. This work also contains extended techniques for both trombonist and the pianist.
Pentasy was premiered by Jasper Tan and Gabriel Hoe at the Esplanade Recital Studio, Singapore on the 18th of January, 2015. This work was revised in 2025 to remove the need for the pianist to have access to a sostenuto pedal.
