Before Star Wars, there was The Day The Earth Stood Still — a film that defined the sci-fi genre for generations to come. In this Pop Culture Live Auction spotlight, Propstore’s UK poster expert Mark Hochman introduces an exceptionally rare UK Quad poster for Robert Wise’s 1951 classic.
Unlike its American counterparts, this British-printed quad features country-unique artwork with bold purple hues and a dominant image of the iconic robot Gort — the towering, silver sentinel with a laser eye who left an indelible mark on movie history.
Due to their limited print runs, UK quads for 1950s sci-fi films are incredibly scarce — and this one is a true standout for collectors of vintage paper and genre-defining cinema.
