Scientific method is a systematic process for investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge, or correcting and integrating previous knowledge.
8 Steps to the Scientific Method
Ask a Question
Conduct Background Research
Formulate a Hypothesis
Design and Conduct an Experiment
Analyze Data
Draw Conclusions
Report Results

1. Ask a Question
Ask a Question: Identify a specific problem or question based on observations or curiosity about the natural world.
The question should be clear and focused.

2. Conduct Background Research
Conduct Background Research: Gather existing information to form a foundation for the investigation and refine the question.

3. Formulate a Hypothesis
Formulate a Hypothesis: Develop a testable, falsifiable statement or prediction based on the research.
4. Design and Conduct an Experiment
Plan a controlled experiment, defining variables (independent, dependent, controls) and procedures.
Perform the experiment, collecting accurate and consistent data.

Independent Variables- The variable you manipulate or control to test its effect. It's the "cause" in a cause-and-effect relationship.
Example: Amount of study time before a test.

Dependent Variables- The variable you measure or test, affected by the independent variable. It's the "effect."
Example: Test score.

Controls- Variables kept constant to prevent them from influencing the results.
Example: Same study material or testing environment for all participants.

5. Analyze Data
Use graphs, statistics, or other tools to interpret data and identify trends.

6. Draw Conclusions
Determine if the hypothesis is supported or refuted, considering the results and limitations.

7. Report Results
Share findings through reports or presentations for others to review or replicate.

8. Refine
Revisit earlier steps based on findings, refining the question, hypothesis, or experiment for further study.
