On Saturday, 16 May, Ralston College convened to install its new Chancellor, Dr Iain McGilchrist, and to confer the Master of Arts in the Humanities upon its fourth cohort of scholars.
At St. John’s Episcopal Church, the ceremony unfolded according to the enduring forms of the university tradition. A procession from Forsyth Park, led by a bagpiper, affirmed the College’s commitment to learning as a public and cultural act.
Following an encomium by Provost David Butterfield, the President, Stephen Blackwood, formally installed Dr McGilchrist. The Chancellor then conferred degrees upon the graduands, who were admitted into the fellowship of the College as Masters.
What appeared a conclusion was revealed as a beginning: a call to lives of intellectual seriousness and devotion.
