Ben Reilly came into Peter Parker's life at a time when Peter didn't want to be the man behind the mask anymore, and showed him how much he had to be thankful for.
Moreover, Ben came to the realization that he doesn't want Peter's life, and wouldn't even know what to do with it if it was given to him - he will always be Ben Reilly, and he's accepted that.
I love that the two 'Spider Bros' ended up learning so much from each other throughout the Clone Saga, and I wish that character development could have continued unabated by Marvel Editorial.
