What happens when you try to slow glacier melting with a wool blanket?

In this documentary, Robin Danehav follows a real climate experiment on Sweden’s highest mountain, Kebnekaise, where a group of people attempt to slow seasonal glacier melt by covering part of the ice with wool. The idea is simple. Turning it into reality is physically demanding, uncertain, and anything but controlled.

Filmed across three separate trips and different seasons, the film documents the project as it unfolds in real time. Winter snow, summer heat, long approaches on foot, heavy equipment, exhaustion, doubt, and persistence. There is no script and no guaranteed outcome. The work has to be done anyway.

As a filmmaker, I entered a world I wasn’t prepared for. Working alongside experienced mountain people, the contrast became clear. What felt overwhelming to me was routine to them. Carrying camera gear while skiing, climbing, and traversing a glacier pushed me far beyond my comfort zone. That difference in experience became an important part of the story.

This is not a film about solving climate change. We are not saving a glacier. At least not directly. Instead, this is a film about effort. About caring enough to act, even when the impact feels small and the result is uncertain.

Climate change is often discussed through numbers, forecasts, and distant timelines. On the glacier, it becomes physical. You see it in the ice, in the melt patterns, and in the scale of the landscape compared to the people working on it. By documenting the experiment as it happens, rather than explaining it afterward, the story stays close to reality.

There are no claims. No slogans. Just real work, unfolding under real conditions.

This film is part of my ongoing project to create 100 documentaries about people who are trying to make the world better in their own way. Not through grand gestures, but through sustained effort, often far from the spotlight.

If this film resonates with you, I hope it encourages you to think differently about effort, scale, and what it means to try. Sometimes change doesn’t start with certainty. Sometimes it starts with people willing to act anyway.
