Happy Anniversary to the coolest attraction to exist along with Bear-y Tales! The Whacky Soap Box Racers attraction was designed by the talented Eddie Sotto who never built a ride before. So the attraction was his first ride to ever make such a good impression with Knott's! All coming from the brilliant mind of Sotto who went on from working at Sears to becoming an Imagineer years later!
The audio heard here is Royal Blue by Henry Mancini (A composer whose music was mostly used in the ride since Sotto couldn't afford a custom soundtrack) that played from the Sandbox Bar portion of the ride as you're breezing past Catnip Junction! Complete with sound effects in each building to signify life happening in the mostly static displays! All built in the style of Disney's Fantasyland attractions!
