Rare Never Before Seen Footage of Return To The Fair being tested from a build in February of 2020.
The animations for most of the characters wasn't finalized. There was different scene placements, props changed, and characters in different spots. One of which was a Female Bear in the Country Fair scene that may or may not be a stand-in for Madam Wong whose appearance from the ride was cut in the finished production.
That and you gotta love the placeholder music in certain spots. Shout Out to Boo Mansion from Super Mario 3D World in Fortune Teller's Camp. And a track from one of the Rayman games in Thunder Cave?
Although, interestingly. There is no other Animal Species represented in this earlier version. So you won't find any Raccoons, Beavers, Rabbits and other Weirdos unfortunately.
Hopefully one day we will get context from those who worked on the ride to understand the development of Return To The Fair. But also the internal history when it was being developed as the story behind it is very much undocumented from the inner workings of Triotech.
One of my biggest questions for them from me would be to know what ideas got cut and why isn't all the Characters from the Original ride like Madam Wong, Wally The Wirewalker, Harry Rabbit, the Beaver Bros. and others not represented? Those would be my biggest ones.
Our guess is that due to the ride being rushed to completion for the 100th Anniversary and also due to Covid adding more to the fire of the ride's troubled production in 2020 with Knott's Berry Farm being closed.
We believe it to be the former due to many Knott's Ambassadors of the 100th Anniversary who seen the original version of Return To The Fair as part of a preview that happened during Covid. Which showed a sparse and much more empty attraction in the physical scenes that were made. Which prompted the Knott's in-house team to add more physical elements like signage, props, and set detail to the attraction when it opened to the public in 2021. Giving the ride extra time in the oven during the days of Covid.
Unfortunately, that extended time didn't help the ride and its problematic ride system improve.
But anyways, enjoy this early look into what Triotech planned and how far things progressed during this time.
