SAN ANTONIO (September 3, 2021) – The San Antonio Police Department today released footage from an officer-involved shooting that occurred July 5, 2021, in the 300 block of Noria.
Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Noria Road at approximately 11 a.m. on July 5 for a shooting in progress. Several individuals, including a TV crew, stated a male fired several rounds in their direction before fleeing.
The suspect, later identified as Eduardo Amezquita, then broke into a home in the 300 block of Noria where he assaulted several people inside. Those individuals were able to escape the home. The suspect then went into the backyard.
SWAT entered the home and attempted to contain the suspect to the backyard by closing the back door. During this effort, officers heard what they believed to be gunfire, prompting two officers inside the home and three officers outside the home to shoot, killing Amezquita.
It’s unclear who fired first. Two firearms were recovered from Amezquita.
As with all officer involved shootings, the District Attorney’s Office is investigating the incident.
Background information on the Department’s updated Body Worn Camera Procedure: The San Antonio Police Department updated its Body Worn Camera Department Procedure in December 2020 to release portions of videos and 911 calls related to critical incidents involving officer-involved shootings or use of force resulting in death of an individual. The release of information is balanced with other sound public policy objectives including privacy and due process. Videos related to domestic violence will not be released unless the Police Chief believes that the release will serve a law enforcement purpose.
