Consistent with our Critical Incident Video Release Procedure, SAPD is releasing video from an Officer Involved Shooting that occurred on March 2, 2025, in the 5000 block of W. Military Dr. Below is a brief synopsis of the critical incident:
Around 12:30 a.m., the SAPD Covert Unit and uniformed officers in marked patrol vehicles conducted high-visibility surveillance at an illegal after-hours drinking establishment. Upon noticing officers at the front of the establishment, an individual inside the building locked the front door. An officer, positioned at the rear of the establishment, observed an individual standing by the back doorway pointing a gun in the direction of officers. The officer yelled out commands at the suspect to drop the gun. The officer fired several rounds, striking the suspect. The injured suspect went back inside the establishment where he stayed until apprehended several hours later. Life-saving measures were performed on the 28-year-old suspect, Aaron Huerta-Hernandez. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was later charged with Aggravated Assault Against a Peace Officer. No officers or bystanders were injured.
As with all officer involved shootings, the District Attorney’s Office is reviewing these incidents.
