Consistent with our Critical Incident Video Release Procedure, SAPD is releasing video from an Officer Involved Shooting that occurred on July 16, 2026, in the 800 block of Hammond Avenue. Below is a brief synopsis:
Officers attempted to make a stop on an individual on a bicycle. The individual ignored officer’s commands to remain in place. Officers made contact with the suspect at the 800 blk of Hammond Ave. When officers approached the suspect, he drew a handgun. Officers gave several commands to drop the handgun, but the suspect did not and subsequently pointed the gun at the officers. Four officers discharged their firearms towards the suspect. The suspect was struck by the gunfire and was later pronounced deceased. Officers immediately attempted life-saving measures. However, the suspect, Andrew Davila, 52, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The officers involved have 1.5 to 20 years of service with the San Antonio Police Department, as listed below. The SAPD Shooting Team and the Internal Affairs Unit are conducting separate but concurrent inquiries. As with all officer involved shootings, the District Attorney’s Office is reviewing this incident.
