Consistent with our Critical Incident Video Release Procedure, SAPD is releasing video from an Officer Involved Shooting that occurred on August 1, 2026, in the 600 block of Aurora Avenue. Below is a brief synopsis:
Just after 7:30 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance involving a gun. The caller advised that her neighbor was in the front yard waving a gun. Officers arrived and observed the suspect in possession of a firearm. The suspect ignored the officers’ commands and reached for his weapon in its holster. Five officers fired their duty weapon at the suspect. The suspect, 69-year-old Raul Garza, was pronounced deceased at the scene. No officers or bystanders were injured.
The officers involved have less than one year to 4 years of service with the San Antonio Police Department, as listed below. The SAPD Shooting Team and the Internal Affairs Unit are conducting separate but concurrent inquiries. As with all officer involved shootings, the District Attorney’s Office is reviewing this incident.
