Salvation requires a new heart, but with that heart comes understanding. We can grasp how turning up the lights can change what we desire in a fleshly sense. Imagine choosing a rotten steak over a hamburger. That's the difference understanding makes. Salvation is similar. When we pass from death unto life, we see the world differently and our choices change accordingly. God brings light and knowledge, transforming our choices from unwilling submission to obvious paths of peace and joy.
