Though Salt Cathedral’s Juli Ronderos and Nico Losada grew up minutes away from each other in Bogotá, they never met until after they’d both moved stateside. When we joined the duo at their charming Bed-Stuy pad, there were flowers on the mantle and Colombian chocolates in the kitchen—it was Nico’s birthday, and Juli’s had fallen just the day before. “Holy Soul,” from September’s Oom Velt EP, was stripped down to guitar, vocals and the Fender Rhodes while beams of afternoon sun poured through the living room windows. “The lyrics are about all of those people who are foreigners in a different land,” says Juli. “Everybody has their own story, and everyone’s story kind of hurts.”
