Unit: Major Project Production - Of Silk and Sawdust is a sophisticated and cross collaborative short film, involving students from Animation, Film, Audio and Music courses at SAE Melbourne.
Synopsis: Of Silk and Sawdust is a sci-fi drama about loss and robotic sentience. It follows a robot called Sonny, who through the story, evolves to comprehend emotions. The story starts as Sonny is sent to an abandoned Melbourne to find his dying owner's long-lost son. Ending up in a restaurant, he discovers the remnants of a birthday party. After experiencing a flashback, Sonny takes a memento and returns to the ship. After informing his owner on what happened, they sit in silence in his owner's final moments.
Of Silk and Sawdust is a five minute live-action, animated short film. Its intended goal is to be a simple and contained product that shows our VFX and Filmmaking skills The project will use filmed footage that will have visual effects and computer-generated imagery inserted to bring the story to life.
