한국 컨테이너, 북극항로 첫 도전, 기대효과
Welcome to Tuesday's edition of Press Perspective for SEPTEMBER FIRST here in Seoul.
I'm Min Sun-hee.
With the Arctic route reshaping the map of global trade South Korea's Busan city is betting on its ports and infrastructure to turn a new shipping corridor into a wider strategy to becoming a global maritime capital.
For more I have Celio Fioretti with French daily La Croix.
Celio welcome back.
I also have Ruy Valdes with Spanish news agency EFE Spain.
Ruy it's good to have you here.
1) Celio, for viewers who may be hearing about this for the first time, let's begin with South Korea's decision to test the Northern Sea Route.
So first, what is the Northern Sea Route, and what exactly is South Korea testing?
2) Ruy, why is South Korea interested in sending ships through the Arctic when it already has established routes to Europe through the Suez Canal?
3) Celio, how much shorter or faster could the Arctic route really be, and what would that mean for a trade-dependent economy like South Korea?
4) Ruy, if the route is potentially so advantageous, why hasn't it already become a major alternative to Suez, and what are the practical obstacles to making Arctic shipping commercially reliable?
5) Celio, how significant is Busan in this strategy, and is Korea really trying to turn the city into a major gateway between Asia and this emerging Arctic trade route?
6) Ruy, South Korea is also one of the world's leading shipbuilders, so how could an expansion of Arctic shipping create opportunities not just for Korean ports but for the country's shipbuilding and maritime industries?
7) Celio, the biggest complication is that much of this route runs along Russia's Arctic coast, so how does South Korea reconcile its Arctic ambitions with Western sanctions and its alliance with the United States?
8) Ruy, China is already moving much more aggressively into Arctic shipping, so should we see South Korea's move as an economic opportunity, a strategic hedge against China, or both?
All right.

![[K-Enter] Venice Film Festival opens with Possible Love in competition
베네치아영화제 오늘 개막 황금사자상 노리는 가능한 사랑
Lets start with a Korean film competing at one of the worlds major film festivals!
The 83rd Venice Film Festival kicks off Wednesday local time, on the island of Lido in Venice, Italy. A total of 20 films are competing for the festival’s top prize, the Golden Lion, including Lee Chang-dong’s latest film, “Possible Love”.
It marks the second consecutive year that a Korean film has been selected for the festival’s main competition, following Park Chan-wook’s “No Other Choice” last year.
The Venice Film Festival will run through September 12th with the awards ceremony taking place at the closing ceremony.
“Possible Love” follows two couples who meet while working on a film project. It stars Jeon Do-yeon, Sul Kyung-gu, Jo In-sung and Cho Yeo-jeong.
The film will open in select theaters in Korea on September 23rd before streaming on Netflix on November 6th.
Please keep us updated on the results. Our next story is on BTS!
Los Angeles has officially declared September 1st through the 8th as “BTS Week” to celebrate BTS and their upcoming world tour, “ARIRANG.” To mark the occasion, Los Angeles City Hall was lit up in red, the key color of BTS’s fifth album, “ARIRANG,” on Tuesday. According to BIGHIT MUSIC, the lighting was meant to officially welcome concertgoers visiting the city and symbolize friendship between Los Angeles and BTS.
The Mayor of LA, Karen Bass, said the city is proud to celebrate BTS’s remarkable contributions to global culture and their special connection with Los Angeles.
Previously, El Paso County in Texas, the state of Illinois, and the city of Toronto, Canada, have created a “BTS Week” or “BTS Day” to celebrate the group and their concerts.
An exciting week for BTS fans in LA. And well end with a rookie boy group, AND2BLE.
AND2BLE are making waves, winning seven awards within just four months of their debut. The group won the “Rookie Male Idol of the Year” award at the 2026 Brand of the Year Awards held on Tuesday.
Since their debut in May, AND2BLE have taken home a total of seven trophies from major award ceremonies in Korea and overseas.
The group stood out for their strong performances in fan-voted categories, winning three awards at the Hallyu Expo, where all awards were decided entirely through fan voting.
For a rookie group, turning early buzz into a loyal fanbase is crucial and AND2BLE seem to be doing just that. The group’s debut mini album, “Sequence 01: Curiosity,” sold 730-thousand copies in its first week, placing it among the highest first-week sales figures for a debut album by a K-pop group.
That’s impressive. Looking forward to their activities.
