Modern Classic | Ryzen 5 1600X PC upgrade (from FX-8320) @ModernClassic | Uploaded June 2017 | Updated October 2024, 2 hours ago.
Many people have asked me for a look at my modern desktop PC, so as long as I'm doing an upgrade anyway, here I am installing a new MSI B350 PC Mate motherboard, AMD Ryzen 5 1600X CPU and 16GB of DDR4 SDRAM into said desktop. This is the computer I use for both gaming and heavy video encoding jobs, so it needs to be somewhat powerful. At the same time, I don't like spending money unnecessarily, so I look for the best bang for the buck.
Several of you have commented on the RAM speed. Spending more on faster RAM is not a good investment unless you already have the fastest CPU available. Otherwise, you will get better performance by taking that money and putting it towards a faster CPU. The rule of thumb for all around bang for the buck - and this has never changed and will never change - is to buy the fastest CPU and the slowest RAM you can afford. The 1600X was the fastest CPU I could afford.
Sorry I keep calling the CPU a "1600+" in the video - I've clearly got some kind of mental block!
