ℹ️ About the Episode: Who would have thought that a pound of air actually weighs a pound? 🤯 We've been using weight distribution systems since day 1. The dealership set up our hitch for us and said, "This is how we set it up for rigs like yours," so we blindly said, "Okay." It's hard to tell what's really happening with the weight distribution when you're driving the truck. Presumably, if there isn't sway, it's working . . . right? But during our recent trip across the country, we noticed that our battery box didn't open when we had weight distribution, which prompted us to hit the CAT scales to see exactly where the weight was going. That's what this video is about. In this episode, we share the numbers on our setup but don't make any recommendations. In fact, the only thing we suggest is to know your numbers and go through the steps to set up your own weight distribution instead of blindly agreeing to a generic setting, like we did when we were new. Tongue weight plays the biggest role in sway control, and the recommended tongue weight is 10 to 15 percent of the trailer's total weight. Should you find yourself in a sway situation, the first maneuver is to grab your trailer brakes to quickly correct your trailer. We suggest practicing this maneuver so you know what it feels like. Should your 7-way plug come disconnected, reduce your speed and pull over when it's safe to re-connect.
