Ernest Rutherford's model of the atom, also known as the Rutherford model or planetary model, was proposed in 1911 as a modification of the earlier Thomson model. Rutherford, along with his colleagues Hans Geiger and Ernest Marsden, conducted the famous gold foil experiment, which led to the development of this model.
