A video posted by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on August 26, presented as filmed in Zaporizhzhia, has sparked an online controversy over an apparent visual anomaly in the footage.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry mocked the clip, calling it Zelenskyy’s “digital magic trick” and alleging that he was “teleporting” himself in front of a Zaporizhzhia Region sign. It claimed the apparent technical glitch turned an attempt to boost Ukrainian troop morale into a “PR embarrassment”.

However, claims that the footage was filmed against a green screen, generated using AI or deliberately staged remain unverified. The apparent anomaly could have several technical explanations, including video stitching, compression artefacts or editing.
