WWII Defences, Inskip, Lancashire..
Brutalist in appearance and a prominent feature in the landscape, So I thought I'd make a short film of this impressive piece of roughcast architecture. A classic example of function giving rise to form.
Some Info -
2-Pounder anti-tank gun emplacement with light-anti-aircraft position to the rear. facing west, it could have defended against an invasion launched from Ireland or the west coast.
Used in conjunction with anti-tank blocks and rails, this emplacement formed part of a defence line based on the River Wyre and the Lancaster Canal.
The main chamber is 19ft. x 17ft. with a 42 inch thick wall. An open annexe at the rear measuring 10ft. x 19ft. has a 15 inch thick wall surrounding it. The concrete post would have supported a LAA gun.
The two loopholes in the sides of the emplacement were for light machine-gun use.
