First run in the ASICS Sonicblast. What is this shoe? Short answer is Novablast with a plate. Longer answer is that it has a top layer of aTPU (FF Turbo²) and a bottom layer of FF Blast Max. In between the layers is a partial plastic plate.
The shoe has a stiff rocker that reminds me of the old Evoride or the original Magic Speed. But the combo of foams creates a much softer ride than either of those shoes could provide. I find the shoes to be a bit mushy and heavy for fast forefoot running, and my body liked them best at paces where I was more heel toe during some easier paces.

I have a feeling that this shoe will be a bit polarizing, like a Mach X. Some people will love it and want to do everything from easy day to workouts to marathons in the shoe. Others might find it to be a light stability Novablast and might not really find a spot for it in their rotation.

I had high hopes for the shoe, especially after how much I loved the Megablast. And the FF Turbo² in the shoe is really nice. But I think the shoe ills designed for a runner who isn’t me.
