UPDATE (Nov 10, 2025): I reached out to Hoka regarding the 42mm stack height and how that effects the usability of the shoe for attempting to set national records or qualifying for the World Athletics Championships Marathon. They told me that the stack height of a US Mens 8 is 39mm, which would make the shoe legal at that size. The 42mm stack height corresponds to a US Mens 10, which is the size that Hoka uses when reporting shoe weights on their website listing for the shoe.
This is the Hoka Rocket X3, and it looks a lot like the Hoka Cielo X1 2.0. So what’s the difference between these two shoes? And why do they each exist? It’s time to lace up the Rocket X3 and take it for a run.
