In this video essay I talk about Roxy Rocket’s radical reinvention in Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2 - from her real-world creator origins in Batman: The Animated Series to her intense battle against corporate exploitation.
Originally created by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini as a comic-first royalty strategy following the explosive success of Harley Quinn, Roxy Sutton was Gotham’s ultimate adrenaline junkie. But Caped Crusader discards the playful thrill-seeking, recasting her as a visionary inventor betrayed, scarred, and hunted by corporate greedheads: the Terrible Trio.
I’ll also talk about the evolution of her relationship with Batman, her shift into a Rocketeer-inspired crusader against war profiteering, and the fascinating meta-irony connecting her real-world creation history to her on-screen tragedy.
