In the words of insaneintherainmusic, Rowan be GROOVIN. Rowan’s Theme is one I’ve held close for most of my life. There’s just this certain feeling I get when I listen to it that I don’t get with other professor themes. A lot of them are great, but there’s this serious, excited feeling to Rowan’s Theme for me. A friend of mine asked me recently if I had covered Rowan’s Theme, and I hadn’t! I had thought about it several times, but either couldn’t come up with an idea or didn’t enjoy the idea as I attempted to bring it to life.
I recently heard PJ Morton’s version of How Deep Is Your Love (it’s amazing, go listen to it). I loved the intimate chamber string ensemble paired with vocals, keys, bass, and drums. It wasn’t a lot in terms of instrumentation, but so resonant and full. I loved the warmth of the strings and pretty much everything about it. When I heard it, I said that’s the kind of music I wanna make. Warm, fun, and resonates on so many levels.
That track was definitely a huge inspiration for the direction I chose to take this cover in. I really wanted to play with acoustic and electric groupings in this. Alternating between grand piano and electric piano in certain sections and pairing electric piano with upright bass and grand piano with electric bass. This track also gave me chance to work more with my string programming in getting that clear sound, but still full. And lastly… drums. Drums and I have a tough time. But I learned a lot about really thinking about what I want my kit to sound like and playing with lots of what Superior Drummer 3 has to offer haha.
I had to think about the video for this quite a bit. I didn’t have as much time to polish this cover up as others and a lot of the parts are programmed. I played most of them on the piano, but I wanted to work more with color and particle speed to convey energy and nostalgia. I’m incredibly excited for the DPPt remakes later this year. DPPt has been my favorite Pokémon game since I played it. I wanted to use color to convey aging/nostalgia since we’re getting this remake!
Lastly, I gotta thank VGR. I was struggling to come up with an ending for this cover and he had asked to hear what I was currently working on. I sent him a draft and he mentioned he could hear original lyrics that dealt with nostalgia. After he said that, the words came pretty quickly. I thought about things I would hear after being away from a place or group of people that were important to me. Gen 4 will always hold a special place in my heart, and I’m glad to finally be doing the music some justice.
Please enjoy this piano cover of #RowansLab from #PokémonDPPt done by me, #SabIrene

It is my favorite time of year! I absolutely adore the fall and always have, and one thing I look forward to every year, are all the fall flavors. They really are some of the best! So I wanted to write a song that captured that feeling on a brisk fall morning where you’re waiting to make a cup of warm coffee or tea. It really just hits different in the fall.
As for the instrumentation, I wanted to keep it fairly simple. I mostly wanted to focus on the vocals and capture the color of vocals like the colors of the changing leaves in autumn.
While the composition came together rather quickly for this one, the mixing definitely pushed me. I worked with instruments I’m very familiar with, however I struggled a lot with this mix. The biggest issue was that nothing was sitting in the same space, and my usual reverbs felt either way too strong or lacked presence. I kept redoing the mix and not noting much of a shift. I actually ended up changing how I do my reverb and the plugin I use after almost 4 years of my current method. I learned about sidechaining reverb to my vocals recently, and shifted from creating sends for Early Reflections, Late Reflections, and Longverb, to 2 sends for Room and Character. While I’m still wrapping my head around it, I think it definitely helped bring this track to life!
As for the video, I wanted to capture the chill fall feel, and what’s more fall than falling leaves and cozy clothes? Filming the video went super smoothly, but much like the audio, there was a pattern. I had made a falling fruit asset for my Suika main theme cover months ago, and switched out the fruit assets for leaves. It looked really nice, however, it didn’t work for most of this video. Because this video is so vocal heavy, I had to redo the falling leaves so they didn’t fall in the center of the video. However, this created another issue… While the center of shots weren’t obscured anymore, the vocal harmony shots in the upper corner were. So, I opted to change it around, having the fall leaves just during the piano intro and outro, and playing with light beams and that sort of golden/orange hue we get throughout fall for the rest of the video.
While there were a lot of hiccups throughout this process, I’m really happy with how this track turned out. I just wanted to do something fun and light-hearted for my favorite time of year and what I enjoy most about it. Hope you enjoy Fall Flavors~
Lyrics:
A little brew, little tea, little coffee
Grab some mugs for just you and me
All my spices, they’re ground up real fine
Aroma’s so divine ohh
Blend em up, stir em up, give em a toast
Feel the beans and smell the dark roast
Watch for the bubbles in the water
I just can’t wait to taste the fall flavors
I can’t stop at one cup
Just so warm and cozy ‘gainst the breeze
Sugar falls into my tea just like leaves
I’m gonna jump into the pile and watch the colors swirl around me
Fall flavors
I’ve got to get me some
Fall flavors
Pumpkin, chai, cider, cloves, and maple
Fall flavors
Can’t get enough of my
Fall flavors
Apple, Pie, cinnamon they’re staples

I know I’ve done a Final Fantasy inspired track before, but I wanted to approach it from a different place. When we think of Final Fantasy, we often think of really heavy, fast, punchy battle themes. I wanted to think about the other parts of the game. And with Final Fantasy VII just releasing, I thought about how I would write a character theme, and knew I had to do my own take on Aerith’s Theme.
I decided to keep the instrumentation fairly simple on this one. There aren’t too many layers in the original Aerith Theme, and so I wanted my composition to reflect that. I kept going back and forth on adding more instruments after tracking the initial piano, flute, and vocals. But I honestly don’t think it needs anything more.
The mix was definitely a challenge for this. Because there are so few layers, I can’t mix certain instruments how I typically would. The piano had to fill a large space since it’s the primary instrument in the track and also plays the melody. The flute and vocals are there for countermelodies and texture. So striking the balance between the piano and other layers was a bit tricky. Making sure everything could be heard enough, but not take away from one another. It was definitely a good lesson in compression and EQ carving.
As for the video, I wanted something light and bright, since that embodies Aerith pretty strongly. She’s a light presence for Cloud, Tifa, and the others. Pink and red aren’t really my colors, so I opted to do a play on Aerith’s dress and cardigan in my own colors. It was really fun to tackle something more minimal this time around!
Hope you enjoy Theme of Hope~

Well this definitely wasnt what I thought would be releasing this week... Ive been feeling a little burnt out on composition the past few weeks since most videos have been finished down to the wire or been released a day late. I feel like Im writing music more so for the sake of a deadline, rather than growth and enjoyment.
I almost didnt release anything today, but a few days ago, a friend asked me if I could write out the piano part to the Suika Game Theme. After spending way too much time on the transcription as well as playing the game the past 2 weeks, I thought it would be funny to do a lo-fi version of the simple main theme.
I kept it pretty simple arrangement wise, sticking to some Rhodes, piano lead, bass, and a lo-fi drum loop. And last minute, I decided to add some flute since I think flute adds really nice texture to lo-fi tracks~
As for the video, I had a ridiculous idea to have fruit falling slowly throughout this very chill remix. It took a few attempts with precise keyframing, but I think it greatly adds to the video haha! Maybe Ill try doing more things like this in the future with videos! I mostly stick to my regular particle effects and color stuff, but venturing slowly into VFX could be fun!
After a few stressful, tiring weeks, this was a nice palette cleanse to reset everything. Theres a lot of things being prepped for 2024 and Im really excited to share them with you! Keep your eyes out on social media!
Hope you enjoy this #lo-fi version of the #suika done by me, #sabirene

This was definitely a fun and peculiar project! Pulse asked me a few weeks ago if Id be able to write a track for him to use during his own videos for sponsorship reads/segments.
He was really inspired by some of the eShop music from 2015, which if youve never heard, are full of BANGERS!
I took some inspiration from the eShop tracks as well as Pokemon Battle Revolution, especially when writing the piano melody partway through.
As I kept listening and mixing the track, it sounded super familiar. And I realized it also reminded me a lot of Zero G Station from Super Monkey Ball Touch and Roll haha!
For the video, I wanted to keep a spacey sort of feel with galaxy colors and the particles acting as stars.
It took me a bit of time to come up with a title for this one. My music tends to sound like space or otherworldly areas and I do love an alliterative title. And I went for a walk one afternoon while listening to the track and it came to me. Shilling Star! Since the track was created for an ad read in videos and a fun play on shooting star!
Huge thank you to Pulse for commissioning me for this track! Hope you enjoy this original #vgm #digitalfusion track, #ShillingStar ~

I recently finished Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice and absolutely adored the music in that game! It got me listening to the other Ace Attorney soundtracks again, gravitating toward the courtroom lobby themes from Trials and Tribulations and Apollo Justice. I did an Ace Attorney inspired track a few years ago now, and it was fun to take a different approach with this one!
I wanted to keep the layers really minimal in this one, having piano be the focal point. I played a lot with spacing with the two synth lines, having them pan gradually on their respective sides. I actually had the most fun with the drums on this track, which is a rare statement from me. But it was really fun to blend my acoustic drum kick with old PC drum sounds. The old PC sounds dont have much variation in sound based on velocity, so Superior Drummer laid a great foundation. It allowed me to have more nuanced playing, and use the old PC sounds as a double, really giving the drums that oomph I wanted.
For the video, I kept it really simple this time around. I didnt have much time to get this one together with the crazy month ahead, but Im still really happy with how it turned out! Hope you enjoy it too!

My annual synthwave track has arrived! Because of my album ‘Noodles of a Game Dreamer’, which released earlier this year, I had a buffer with YouTube videos and used it to my benefit to get ahead on compositions to post. However, I was traveling a lot in May for work, and then was a little sick, losing a lot of the buffer I had for the first half of the year. I felt stuck for quite awhile on what to write. Summerwave was something I started months ago, but never felt the motivation to finish it.
Thankfully, after writing the composition that’s coming out in 2 weeks, I felt inspired to come back to Summerwave!
I felt like it really captured the end of summer vibes where you’re reflecting on all the adventures you go on in the off months. I kept the track pretty simple, only utilizing a few layers, and focused more on using fx to make the composition more interesting. I played around a lot with spacing to make the piece feel like it was moving around.
As for the video, it was a little last minute. (as in one hour before upload). I didn’t have my usual particle effects and had to come up with something to convey the vaporwave aesthetic. I opted to use some beam effects I had from an old project file still on my computer, and play into the vaporwave color palette.
Hope you enjoy this chill synthwave track, Summerwave~

A composition has been discovered~
This track was definitely one of my recent favorites! The Ace Attorney and Danganronpa games became a big part of my gaming circle a few years ago and I hold them pretty close to me. And the Danganronpa OSTs are really something special. The ability to create music that is simultaneously chilling and groovy is something that really stood out to me. And I feel like the culmination of these feelings is the investigation tracks in each game. They are probably one of my favorite things about Danganronpa. As Raincode’s release was nearing, I thought about how would I compose my own investigation theme?
The answer is, really quickly. This summer is super hectic for me with lots of travel and big things coming in the fall, so I’m having to work quickly to be ahead on projects. Two tracks that really inspired me were Investigation from Apollo Justice and Despair Searching from Danganronpa V3. A lot of what gives investigation themes that sly sneaking feeling to me is the sliding chromatic chords, which helped get the track going! My process afterward was a bit different than my usual compositions. I usually opt to find the sounds I want before recording more lines, but I didn’t have the luxury of time to look through all my synth sounds before filming. So I used a lot of placeholder sounds so I would be able to film each part of the composition. I think it worked to my advantage. It reminded me that more often than not, the sound you’re looking for is a combination of various sounds together.
For the melody as a whole, I think I had way too much fun with it. Because the progression is so chromatic, I decided to have the melody follow, utilizing A LOT of chromaticism throughout. It’s definitely different from my typical melodies, but I think it works with this track and the emotions being conveyed. When you’re trying to piece things together, your mind is going in a million different directions, constantly ping ponging between taking steps forward and backward.
As for the video, I felt like darker lighting would speak more to the investigation vibe. And what better way to convey the Danganronpa feeling visually than with bright, saturated colors in the room.
The mixing for this track definitely pushed me. I don’t typically work with so many harsh and hard hitting elements, so it was a huge challenge to have everything fit in the mix. While there are definitely improvements to be made moving forward, I’m pretty happy with how this turned out! The biggest challenge was definitely making sure the piano melody was crisp and clear among all the synth layers, electric piano, guitar, bass, and drums.
For now, I hope you enjoy this original investigation composition Inquiring Insight~

Happy early Valentines Day! :)
This cover goes out to someone very special to me.
The HG/SS version of Cianwood always seemed kind of romantic in my eyes, similar to how others have seen National Park. So I thought this song was perfect to capture the feel of Valentines Day due to the natural key of the song and the slow tempo, along with the tenor sax ;) I mean come on ;)
Also, experimenting with camera positions for saxophone covers, so sorry if the first part of the video looks a bit weird.
Hope you enjoy this slow, soft, and soothing version of Cianwood City! :) Hope you all have a great Valentine’s Day! :)

Recently, a friend of mine posted a cover of a song called Workin Hard by Fujii Kaze. I had never heard the song, and immediately wanted to learn it myself! The chord progression was super smooth and the Japanese lyrics were different than anything else I had encountered in the Japanese songs Ive learned so far! When I thought about writing a track like this, I was inspired by Workin Hard as well as some tracks from Dr. Stone!
I started writing Yoruzora after sketching some other composition ideas. I started with just a scatted a vocal melody after figuring out a chord progression and bass part. But I wanted to try writing lyrics. My biggest concern was repeating lyrics from older songs, since this felt very spacey and like the night sky.
So I tried to write Japanese lyrics! Ive studied Japanese for the past few years and never done Japanese lyrics like this for a song. It was a lot of fun to write lyrics in another language! Especially since Japanese is different than English with lyric construction and flexibility.
I kept this short since my vocabulary is still limited in Japanese and I didnt want to be too repetitive. But it was a fun experiment to do something different! Not only with lyrics, but another language as well!
I wanted to use my colored lights for this one, but couldnt get them quite right in the new set up. Thankfully, color correction came to my rescue to get those dreamy space colors!
Hope you enjoy this Japanese #RnB original 夜空 composed by me, #SabIrene ~
Lyrics:
夜空を見てみよう
ほしの間で踊ろう
まちの明かりが
明るく輝いている
日が昇る前に行こう
もうTIMEがない急いで
Because I really wanna
Wander among the stars
手をつないで空を見せる
とてもくらくて素晴らしい
歌う甘い声をおって
光に近づく行こう
Black, white, purple, pink, blue swirlin’ ‘round
Dancin’ in the dark and lighting up the sky
Black, white, purple, pink, blue swirlin’ ‘round
Take my hand as we wander ‘mong the stars
Translation:
Let’s go to see the night sky
Let’s dance among the stars
The city’s light shine so bright
Let’s go before the sun rises
Let’s hurry we’re running out of time
Because I really wanna
Wander among the stars
Hand in hand let’s watch the sky
So dark and wonderful
Follow the song of the sweet voice
Close to the light, Let’s go
