Personal thoughts on this track:
What can I say, I'm super nervous about sharing this track. It's been stuck in development for about 7-8 months!
I wanted to arrange some of the FFIX tracks in a cool, jazzy Henry Mancini style; I've always felt that the soundtrack to FFIX (and the tone of the story/setting/characters in general) has a kind of tongue-in-cheek, rebellious undertone, and I wanted to enhance that with this style of music. However, I've had a real on-and-off relationship with this piece and it probably shows as it's a bit rough around the edges. I feel I probably should have scrapped it at some point and built it again from the ground up, instead of just constantly revising it in little bits over the past few months, but that would have just delayed this track even more.
I'll write more in a blog post about all this as I just want to hit the Publish button and get it out there. But, as draw-out and tiring as the creation process was, I am very pleased with the outcome and I hope some of you get some enjoyment out of this arrangement. I'll definitely be doing a few more FFIX jazz arrangements, and hopefully things will be a little more streamlined next time.
