Training Above the Ground: High-Angle Tree Rescue
South Metro Fire Rescue crews recently trained alongside the City of Littleton Forestry sharpening skills in high-angle rope rescue.
While tree rescues are rare in our district, they present unique challenges. Unlike buildings or bridges, trees are living, dynamic structures, requiring a different approach, specialized rope systems, and close coordination with professional arborists. This joint training ensures our crews are prepared for those uncommon, complex calls, whether assisting a professional arborist or rescuing someone in distress where traditional aerial access isn’t possible.
This training also serves as an important reminder to the public: tree trimming, and removal can be extremely dangerous. Working at height, managing heavy limbs, and navigating rope systems require training and experience.
For your safety, always hire a qualified, licensed professional arborist for tree work. A moment of risk isn’t worth a lifetime injury.
