The Roland V-1 4K is a 5-channel multi-format HDMI switcher, serving as the successor to the V-1HD+ switcher. It features five HDMI inputs supporting resolutions up to 4K DCI at 60p, alongside five HDMI outputs. Input 1 offers a Region of Interest (ROI) feature, allowing users to define up to four independent crops from a single 4K source. The switcher can upscale these cropped frames to 4K resolution, effectively converting a single camera feed into multiple distinct visual inputs that can be switched live.
Control for the V-1 4K switcher is handled either directly via physical tactile controls on the unit or through a dedicated control application. The V-1 4K app is compatible with Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android, connecting to the switcher over a local Wi-Fi network or a direct USB-C connection. In addition to control data, the USB-C port supports streaming, enabling the switcher to function as a plug-and-play USB webcam for platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and OBS Studio. The system also supports direct control of pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras.
Roland also presented the VC-1-SC-4K, a utility converter, scaler, and audio embedder/de-embedder for 4K production workflows. The device converts between HDMI and SDI signals, supporting SDI rates from 3G-SDI up to 12G-SDI. It is equipped with two HDMI outputs and two SDI outputs, allowing for clean loop-through configurations with zero latency to cascade signals to additional processors. Integrated XLR terminals on the side of the unit provide options for embedding and de-embedding analog audio into the digital signal path.
The VC-1-SC-4K scaler features scaling modes including full size, crop, letterbox, and dot-by-dot. These modes allow users to adapt video signals for non-standard LED wall aspect ratios and vertical display configurations, such as cropping a horizontal 4K feed into a 1080x1920 portrait format. The scaler's parameters are managed through the companion app across desktop and mobile operating systems, facilitating real-time positioning and scaling adjustments during live production events.
