The concept of Utopia sounds nice -- a perfect world free from problems like poverty and war. We've thought about it collectively since hearing of the Garden of Eden, and Thomas More's "Utopia" was seminal to our understanding of what could be. But even if we could agree on what a utopia would look like, what's the cost of getting there?
Rocket's backstory in Guardians of the Galaxy 3 details how he himself was a victim of the High Evolutionary's utopian vision. Once the sentient Rocket and the High Evolutionary's other creations stopped being useful, they were simply incinerated. The brutality involved in creating the perfect society draws comparisons with real life examples like Pol Pot's Cambodia, in which 2 million victims were byproducts of his quest toward utopia.
Rocket understands what those movements don't: that their hate for the way society is tends to be stronger than their utopian vision.
