This conversation was taped on June 22, 1985, just after Robbie Blunt had finished recording "Shaken ’N’ Stirred," his third album with Robert Plant. His previous album with the Led Zeppelin singer, "The Principle of Moments," had yielded two hits they had composed together, “In the Mood” and “Big Log.” As anyone who’s heard these records can attest, Robbie's appealing and distinctive guitar style is quite different from Jimmy Page's.
Before teaming with Plant in 1982, Blunt had been a journeyman guitarist in the British Midlands, where he lived near Plant and played in bands such as Butch Clutch & The Accelerators, Bronco, Silverhead, Broken Glass, and Chicken Shack. On the day we spoke, Robbie's band with Robert, the Honeydrippers, was embarking on an American tour. I hope you enjoy the interview!
A transcription of this conversation appeared in the October 1985 issue of "Guitar Player" magazine.
Thanks to engineer/producer Nik Hunt for filming the intro and outro and enhancing the sound of the 40-year-old master tapes.
