July 1st, 2023. On a hazy first day of July, Reading & Northern #2102 was on the point of the first "Iron Horse Ramble" excursion of the season hosted by the railroad. The weather was a bit strange, with the haze in the air actually being from remnant wildfire smoke in Canada rather than just the normal humidity associated with summertime in NEPA. Nevertheless, the big T-1 makes easy work of its fifteen car train. We'll see the train in several locations.
0:11 - First, stuck in a line of traffic at the 895 grade crossing in New Ringgold, PA.
0:54 - Then we'll get ahead of the train near the top of the grade on the former Reading portion of the trip at Barnesville.
2:40 - Departing Jim Thorpe, the 2102 eases the train out of the station amongst the dozens of people taking videos and photographs.
6:03 - Assaulting the former CNJ grade west of Nesquehoning, the engine puts on an awesome show back in the woods of the Hometown Hill.
