Laws that recognize the Rights of Nature may have the power to stop the #TarSands Line 3 #Pipeline, which would carry the dirtiest oil on the planet. The White Earth Band of Ojibwe has brought a case on behalf of Manoomin, or wild rice, against the State of Minnesota to stop the construction of the notorious oil pipeline project from Canada which, despite indigenous protest, persists.
Raya Salter is joined by Thomas Linzey, Senior Legal Counsel for the Center for Democratic and Environmental Rights, and Frank Bibeau, tribal attorney for the White Earth Band of Ojibwe, who also works with the 1855 Treaty Authority and Honor the Earth. The rights of salmon and other natural rights are also discussed, including how grassroots efforts can protect the Rights of Nature and help mitigate #ClimateChange.
