Riders on the storm
The ghosts of rock n roll dance all over Paris
And yes it’s changed
Like Sebastian says
The banks have taken over
Money might be more important than people according to some
And maybe the lizard king was always a CIA operative
Trying to destroy the fabric of America
In drunken leather pants
Just from being better looking than the rest of us
And having a deep voice
That resonated like God across Apache desserts
Under red arrow filled skies
Maybe he didn’t wind up in a bathtub in Paris at all
With blue skin staring into infinity
Maybe he’s the bearded vagrant you see passing in the street
Asking for a euro and arguing with a dog
And anyway Val Kilmer became him
Just like Bowie became Warhol
As we are confused about who is really what in the simulation of endless tik tok screensa
Spitting the latest dance craze into the eyes
Of the disenfranchised youth
What would Jim say about what’s become of the world
And the promise of Rock n Roll
Or of his gravestone?
Or even poetry
Poetry got done in by politics
And everyone screaming about
The widening divide
Lost in the insanity of judgement
As the puppet masters blow cigar as
Over stacks of digital cash
And the industry of war
Justifies blowing up people with expensive bombs
And drones of death
Riders on the storm
Into this house, we're born
Into this world, we're thrown
Like a dog without a bone
An actor out on loan
Riders on the storm
All true I guess
So it becomes a question
Of who or what threw us into this world
And why?
It’s not enough to just ride the storm anymore and
A tombstone full of graffiti isn’t the goal
If it ever was
The world seems to be saying
It’s not enough to be the rider
Now we must be the storm.
It’s not enough to die early
The goal is to finally be born
