Abstract: Our talk will showcase an R Shiny application designed to streamline access to one of Mayo Clinic's extensive cancer patient registries, housing data for over 70,000 patients, 87,000 diagnoses, and 91,000 treatments. Tailored specifically for radiation oncologists, the app offers an intuitive interface with dynamic visual summaries emphasizing demographics, diagnosis details, and treatment specifics.
The app's strength lies in its real-time filtering capabilities, enabling oncologists to refine searches based on criteria such as disease site, treatment campus/location, and start/end dates. This not only expedites data retrieval but also enhances precision in extracting relevant information for clinical research feasibility.
Key features of our app include single-row tabular summaries of individual patient records, providing comprehensive insights at-a-glance. The interactive nature of the application allows for on-the-fly adjustments to search parameters, facilitating a seamless exploration of the extensive dataset.
Furthermore, we have incorporated robust access controls linked to internal personnel databases, ensuring secure and authorized usage. The integration of a REDCap API interface for activity monitoring adds an extra layer of accountability.
Attendees will gain insights into the development process, learn about the challenges addressed, and understand the impact of this innovative solution in improving the efficiency of radiation oncologists' workflow. Our success story exemplifies the transformative potential of R Shiny in optimizing data accessibility and visualization within the Life Sciences domain.
