In 2010 we finally began posting vlogs to this channel. Here is an extended version of the very first DA1 vlog, posted in October of 2010.
Mia and I started our own video/animation company while living in California, and had more work coming in than we could handle. We hired Jerry and he moved in with us from NY, where he was also trying to find animation work.
Then in 2008 we were impacted by the recession. Jerry had to find other work and got an office job. We all lived in a tiny apartment and eventually found a house to rent both for more space, and b/c the street noise in the apartment was outrageous.
The house we found had been a frat house for the local college and was not in good condition, but the landlord assured us when we moved in it would be "like a new house." His idea of "new house" was evidently mountains of trash all over the property and the house in ruins. We ended up having to stay two extra months in our apartment while we cleaned the new house, while paying rent there too. This was during what was normally our busy time. Instead of taking on jobs, we were taking out trash. During this time, Jerry also lost his job. The three of us were now all mostly out of of work and living in a more expensive place. It wasn't the best situation.
What we believed was a nice quiet neighborhood also turned out to be the neighborhood from hell. We wanted our next move to be back to the east coast but to do that, we'd need to find work that paid enough to move us, and that wouldn't also keep us stuck in California.
