Released on A&M in 1978, the debut LP by south-east London band Squeeze was an uneasy collaboration with John Cale, who forced them to ditch most of their material and write about smutty themes and musclemen. The result was a peculiar mishmash which didn't get their career off to the most auspicious start, and is now something of a curio in their catalogue. But it's not a record to be written off entirely; for a start if features their first classic hit 'Take Me I'm Yours', and the band's songwriters Chris Difford & Glenn Tilbrook now acknowledge that Cale's influence got them to explore some "interesting new avenues".
