Recorded shortly after their seminal 'Steve McQueen' LP, Prefab Sprout's 'Protest Songs' was kicked into the long grass following the unexpected hit single 'When Love Breaks Down'. Finally surfacing in 1989 in the slipstream of the big-selling 'From Langley Park To Memphis', the record highlighted the Sprouts' softer side and boasted a more stripped-back sound. In this video I discuss this oft-forgotten release by one of the great British indie bands of the 1980s.
