Between 1977 and 1982, Peter Gabriel took the unusual step of releasing four consecutive solo LPs each simply called 'Peter Gabriel'. In time they became better known as 'Car', 'Scratch', 'Melt' and 'Security', and each in their way took Gabriel one step closer to the superstardom he'd finally enjoy in 1986 with his commercial breakthrough record 'So'.
In this video I retrace Gabriel's steps, from the summer of 1975 when he left Genesis, to the dark and turbulent political moods of 'Security', by which time his sonic experimentations and songwriting prowess had prepared him for his place at the top table of eighties rock.
