Galaxies can be demanding DSOs to image. They contain a great deal of fine detail in the form of dust and gas structures, but their inherently bright cores and dim arms often require compromises in histogram stretching that can wash out detail. But you can balance the brightness by creating multiple stretches of the data and strategically compositing them together, and you can reveal and reinforce the detail with frequency separation.
