CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — A retired Charleston police officer and detective needs a new kidney.

Melvin Magwood, a retired Charleston Police Department officer, is looking for a donor and is praying for a better outcome.

After dedicating his life to public service for over 20 years, Magwood is facing an unexpected obstacle.

"Back in 2018, I was diagnosed with kidney failure," Magwood said. "I found out that I needed a kidney transplant."
