Making a game on your own is exciting, but also frustrating. One of the hardest parts is knowing whether you should keep pushing forward with your project, or take a step back and start over. Restarting can feel like wasted time, but sometimes it’s the only way to actually save your game in the long run.
In this video I talk about the tricky balance between redoing your work and pushing ahead. I share what I’ve learned from restarting my own projects more than once:
🔥 Why we restart (outgrowing old code, self-doubt, lack of preparation)
🤯 How to deal with scope creep and shifting ambitions
⚙️ The value of loosely coupled code and modular design
📝 Why writing things down and sharing ideas with other devs makes such a difference
If you’re a solo game developer (or just starting out), this might help you avoid endless restarts and keep moving forward.
I’d love to hear your thoughts: when did you decide to restart, and when did you keep going? Leave a comment below.
