“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” How do these words of Jesus, according to the Gospel of John, speak to our Enduring Principle of “Responsible Choices”?
We are called to make responsible choices. Yet while God gives humanity the capacity to choose, many people face conditions that limit their freedom. When our ability to choose is constrained, should we rely on a strict list of dos and don’ts? That’s not what Jesus calls us to do. In John’s Gospel, every time Jesus mentions “commandments,” it’s always about love—or framed by love.
How can we, in both the everyday decisions and the life-changing ones, put love first? How can love guide us to make choices that are truly responsible?
