Every year, our Division of Occupational & Environmental Medicine sponsors a lectureship in honor of Dr. Alice Hamilton, the founder of the modern discipline of occupational medicine in the U.S. This year’s speaker is Eric Garshick of the VA Boston Healthcare System and Harvard Medical School. His talk will enlighten us about the important exposures and pulmonary conditions that military personnel encountered during and after deployment in Afghanistan and Southwest Asia.
Speaker:
Eric Garshick, MD, is professor of medicine, Harvard Medical School and associate chief of Pulmonary, Allergy, Sleep, and Critical Care Medicine at the Boston VA. In addition to practicing clinical pulmonary medicine, his research focuses on epidemiologic studies assessing the health effects of inhaled particulate matter. He is currently co-chair (with UCSF’s Paul Blanc) of a large VA study assessing associations between deployment-related particulate matter exposures and pulmonary function in veterans.
