50 years of Buro Happold also represent five decades of delivering cultural projects around the world – including numerous examples in Germany, as Partner and Germany Managing Director Stephen Jolly highlighted at the beginning of our debate in Munich.

His introduction traced a line from early projects such as the aviary at Hellabrunn Zoo to current developments like berlin modern, illustrating how consistently culture has shaped our work.

At the heart of the evening was the question of the role cultural venues play in our cities and society. The discussion made one thing clear: cultural spaces are far more than buildings. They are places to meet, enable exchange, foster dialogue and create a sense of community.

Whether a large institution or a small, informal space: it is often the many individual elements that bring a place to life. This is how “third places” emerge - places that bring people together and open up new perspectives.

Diverse perspectives and insights were shared by Michael Amtmann (Gasteig), Christian Hellmund (gmp), Anna Kleeblatt, and Eva Tillig (Pinakothek der Moderne Foundation). The audience also enriched the discussion with curiosity and insightful questions.
