Playthrough of the game on the hard mode setting. Resident Evil 3 was originally released in 1999. It takes place before, and later after, the events of Resident Evil 2. Jill Valentine returns as the main playable character, as she battles to escape from Raccoon City.

When I replayed RE1, I enjoyed it. I really enjoyed RE2 as well. Then I played this… and I hated it! I haven’t played this in a long time and when I was playing it I was getting my ass kicked by Nemesis all the time. I found some enemies, mainly the Drain Deimos, really annoying (although that ridiculous run animation (46:03) they have is very funny). The early parts of the game featured a lot of narrow corridors which make it difficult to get by if Nemesis attacks you. It took me several attempts to get this playthrough done.

The best way to deal with Nemesis is to avoid him whenever possible. At certain parts of the game you get these “live selection” moments, where you have to make a choice in what to do. Sometimes these choices will take down Nemesis for you, which is vastly preferable than wasting ammo on him. I feel that Nemesis has too much health in the early encounters with him. Once you’ve got the freeze rounds made for the grenade launcher, then you can start fighting with him. It is worth taking him out twice to get the Eagle handgun, which has a fast firing rate.

The only other problem I had was the Grave Digger boss at 1:55:00. I got killed by this thing, what I have issues with is that its attack animations don’t look like they’re doing much, but they actually do. In RE2, if G4 Birkin grabbed your character, the animation looked like it really hurt your character, so naturally you’d think to heal. In this, the Grave Digger’s bite looks like nothing. I got killed by it once and wondered how I’d died. It really needed a better animation for the bite.

I thought that the arranged mode in RE1 Director’s Cut was the hardest campaign in the classic trilogy, but I think RE3 might be the most difficult now. I did get a much bigger sense of satisfaction in beating it, especially as I got the A rank this time -last time I did this I only got a B rank, and I took longer to beat the game.

This was the European PSN version of the game, which actually uses the American version. Which is nice because it runs at 60hz and doesn’t have the massive borders PAL games usually suffer from. One oddity is that, sometimes, it takes far longer to open the inventory menu than it should. It rarely happens, an example of it can be seen at 46:50. I don’t recall this happening last time I did a video for this. The only difference is I’m using the super slim PS3 console, last time it was the regular PS3 slim.
