After much community collaboration on the Google Group for Delta 3D Printers and RepRap forum, Wally was born.
*No linear rails
*28 cheap 608 bearings
*12 unique plastic pieces (none require support)
*Printable on a 150x150mm machine
*Theoretical speeds in excess of 500mm/s
*Theoretical resolution is less than 25 microns
*Mechanicals around $20
The two arms will connect with a figure-8 of string through the holes pictured. (This connection is a variant of double-lamina compliant mechanism.) This will get rid of the need for larger bearings and will allow for an automatic tool changer.
