Drive America's Highways through the heart of Los Angeles along California State Route 2 as it winds from West Hollywood to the edge of the Pacific in Santa Monica. This urban stretch, while relatively short, packs a lot into its roughly 9-mile corridor — offering a vivid cross-section of the Westside's ever-changing streetscapes, culture, and traffic flow. Beginning at La Cienega Boulevard, this portion of Route 2 follows the famed Santa Monica Boulevard westward, threading through some of the most iconic neighborhoods in Southern California.
The journey passes through Beverly Hills — with its manicured medians, upscale retail, and landmark intersections — before continuing into Century City and West Los Angeles. These sections offer a look at the transitional zones of LA’s west side: from high-end shopping and corporate high-rises to more modest commercial strips and residential pockets. As Santa Monica Boulevard nears its end, the route enters the city of Santa Monica proper, a vibrant coastal community known for its walkability, parks, and lively street activity. The route ends at Lincoln Boulevard, just a few blocks inland from the beach, where State Route 2 officially terminates.
While not a traditional freeway or mountain pass like other segments of CA-2, this section is notable for its urban density and historic alignment. It’s one of the few state highways in California that slices through multiple municipalities in such a compact stretch — making it a functional yet fascinating drive for those exploring the Los Angeles basin by car.

🚙 Drive America’s Highways for 71 miles east along the Martha Layne Collins Bluegrass Parkway from Elizabethtown to Lexington, Kentucky — through bourbon country, rolling farmland, and horse country.
The drive begins at Interstate 65 in Elizabethtown, where the Bluegrass Parkway branches eastward across central Kentucky. Traveling northeast, the route soon bypasses Bardstown, crossing interchanges with U.S. Highways 31E and 150 — key connections into a region famed for its bourbon distilleries and small-town charm. The parkway here is lightly traveled, winding through a mix of open farmland, gentle hills, and wooded valleys.
Further along, the highway passes near Bloomfield and Chaplin before reaching the outskirts of Lawrenceburg. This stretch of roadway highlights Kentucky’s agricultural heart, with farms, fields, and the occasional ridge adding variety to the drive. East of Lawrenceburg, the scenery shifts again as travelers approach Woodford County, where iconic horse farms and wide pastures define the landscape. The parkway ultimately concludes just west of Lexington at its eastern terminus with U.S. Highway 60, offering connections directly into Kentucky’s second-largest city and the heart of the Bluegrass region.

🚙 Drive Americas Highways for 16 miles west along U.S. Highway 412 from Hayti to Kennett, Missouri.
We start the drive from Hayti to Kennett at the western terminus of Interstate 155 in southeast Hayti. As the highway becomes U.S. Highway 412, we continue northwest, bypassing Hayti and Hayti Heights to the south and southwest, respectively.
At the intersection with MO-84, we turn due west for 14 miles to Kennett. Entering Kennett, we pass the intersection with Missouri Route 25 before making a brief pit stop for fuel before ending the video a block later at the junction with Missouri Route 84 west.

The drive along U.S. Route 49 from Helena–West Helena to Brinkley covers a key north–south stretch of the Arkansas Delta, linking the Mississippi River region with Interstate 40. Beginning at the junction of U.S. 49 and U.S. 49 Business in Helena–West Helena, the route heads generally west across Phillips County, leaving behind the historic river city and its long-standing role as a Mississippi crossing point. The opening miles of the journey carry traffic through the flat agricultural lands that dominate this part of eastern Arkansas, with wide fields and scattered farmsteads setting the tone for the drive.
Continuing west, U.S. 49 runs through the small communities that serve as anchors for local farming operations. The highway provides access to places like Marvell and other Delta towns where life moves at a slower pace and roadside views often include stretches of cotton, soybeans, and rice fields. As the drive progresses, the road remains largely two-lane, turning north near Marvell and offering a relaxed rhythm compared to the high-speed interstates farther west. Approaching Monroe County, the character of the drive begins to shift as the route nears Brinkley, a longstanding crossroads town in eastern Arkansas. The drive concludes at the junction with Interstate 40, where U.S. 49 ties into one of the country’s busiest east–west highways. This connection links Helena–West Helena and the broader Delta directly with Little Rock to the west and Memphis to the east, underscoring U.S. 49’s importance as a regional connector.

🚙 Drive America’s Highways for 26 miles south along Arkansas Highway 5 from Mountain View to Drasco, Arkansas — a winding stretch through the Ozark foothills of farms and forests.
The journey along Arkansas Highway 5 from Mountain View to Drasco begins at the junction with AR-9 and AR-14 in Mountain View, a town long known as a hub of Ozark folk culture and music. Heading east with AR-14 for a short distance, the highway soon separates and bends southward, leaving town and entering the foothills. The early miles of the route carry travelers through rolling valleys and gentle plateaus, where open farmland alternates with stretches of hardwood forest. This is a quieter, less hurried part of the Ozarks, offering glimpses of small ranches and scattered homesteads along the way.
After crossing a series of hills and ridges, Highway 5 swings southeast and continues its descent deeper into the foothills. Near the intersection with County Road 235, the route takes a more southerly line, running for nearly 14 miles toward Wolf Bayou. Here, the highway intersects Arkansas Highway 25, joining it briefly as the two routes head west into Drasco. The road passes the Drasco Trading Post, a familiar local landmark, before curving south once more. The drive concludes at the junction with Arkansas Highway 92, where AR-5 continues toward Heber Springs, and travelers can turn to explore more of north-central Arkansas.

🚙 Drive Americas Highways for 23 miles south along County Road 7950 from Nageezi to Chaco Culture National Historical Park in New Mexico.
The route from Nageezi to Chaco Culture National Historical Park is a scenic, yet challenging 20 or so mile trek through the stunning high desert of New Mexico. Starting out on a relatively smooth, paved road, County Road 7900, we travel south for five miles, winding between various ranches. Although paved, we recommend keeping your speed low as the road is bumpy in places and there are a few cattle grates that we cross along the way.
The scenery on this part of the drive is typical high-desert: lots of grasses and small bushes dotted with the occasional tree. There are a few hills, the peaks of which offer stunning panoramas of the surrounding areas. Five miles or so south of the start of the drive, the route turns southwest on CR-7950. Starting out paved for the first 2 miles or so, CR-7950 takes us deeper into the New Mexican desert with fewer and fewer signs of civilization along the way.
As the pavement ends, County Road 7950 goes through various surface materials. From packed earth to gravel to the rocky banks of a wash, we travel 15 miles through some pretty rugged terrain. Cars can make the drive, at least when its dry. This road will take its toll on your vehicle. We drove this in a full-sized pickup truck and you can see how rough it was for us. Imagine that in a car!
Continuing southwest, we eventually cross the Escavada Wash and climb a small hill before flattening out for the final approach to Chaco Canyon. This is by far one of the roughest parts of the drive. Take it slow through here, your car will thank you. Descending into the canyon, the road turns to sandy dirt and while smoother than the stuff before it, presenting its own set of challenges. we didnt get much faster than 10 miles per hour during parts of this.
Entering the park, the road becomes paved again - why they even bothered at this point is beyond our understanding - and we take a brief stop for the obligatory entrance sign photo. Entering Chaco Culture National Historical Park, we continue towards the visitors center where we stop to learn about the area and a much needed rest.
The road to Chaco National Historical Park is a scenic, yet rough trip through the high desert of New Mexico. While slow-going, the journey offers panoramic views unmatched anywhere else. Be sure to check road conditions before setting out and respect the local tribal lands. Despite the challenging drive, the destination is well worth the effort.
